Machinist position available in Mesquite TX

Specifics might get you more hits. When I lived in DFW our local shop proudly let me know one day that after a couple years people could move up to $18/hour, and after 10 they might make as much as $25. Not bad for those still learning English and wanting guaranteed hours, but not exactly...

How to spend $24k for a Budding Metrology Lab

My undergrad had a CMM, they also had the usual hand tools. I learned next to nothing with the CMM, but quite a bit from the hand tools. For general teaching purposes: 1. A granite table. If you have space, a 3' x4' table is great and you can set some stuff and a couple people around it. Get...

Tiny little pins...how would YOU make them?

They were M2, but I've had to do something a lot like this (though not to Marcus's quality level), and didn't have an emergency collet handy. Bored a rod to the thread, split it, tried to clamp that in a round collet, and took light cuts to keep it from slipping. Didn't work great. Redid the...

How much weight can the e-track system in an Isuzu box truck handle?

Last time I needed to move a Bridgeport a long distance in a box truck I made sure to get one with a wooden deck. After the obvious things like flipping the head and lowering the knee I lagged the mill to some long 4x4's and then lagged those through the wooden floor with steel plates under to...

    small batch casings, cost effective?

It’s been long enough that I don’t have any contacts, but I’ve done a few parts in castings between grapefruit and basketball sized. The quantity at which it became cheaper to cast than machine vs. machine from solid was a remarkably small number each time. Small as in under a dozen. These were...

    Partial Shipments

There is a valid point Hanermo's post. I have a part right now that I buy from production shop A for $X. They can get me prototypes, but it takes 3 weeks from order to delivered part. I occasionally buy from shop B for 15X because they will do small quantity in 2 weeks. I recently bought a...

    Partial Shipments

There’s an important distinction here. If it’s a case of 10 parts where all parts go through the first OP, then all through the second OP, etc. it might be really inconvenient. If it’s 1000 parts falling finished off a Swiss it’s a lot easier.

Need THREE Rockstar Machinists for Rocket Engine Components

Mennonite I could see, but I’m not sure how many internet forum frequenting Amish machinists are out there.

    Crashed Trumpf Dies

What material is the sheet metal trapped inside? Probably screwed if steel, but could dissolve it out if aluminum.

Looking for leads/recommendations for a design engineer.

Move to the left coast and you can probably +50% that number with a few months of hunting. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if remote equivalents exist at that rate.

    Crashed Trumpf Dies

Somehow seal the ends and hook up a grease gun? Sacrifice one side and hope the other half is ok? Fill it with water, semi cap the ends, and freeze in a chest freezer? Repeat until they get forced apart?

New at *Turning - Missing compound / tool post

Lathes are top heavy in general, so even if this one is moreso you should always take extra care moving them. Many lathes of many makes have met an unfortunate early death, not to mention whatever they might land on.

Looking for leads/recommendations for a design engineer.

I know of a couple small companies that do this, but no individuals who have time. PM me if one of the earlier leads doesn’t pan out.

Maybe he doesn’t want to work there unless it’s for bombs, but I’m just speculating.
