If I understand what your saying, your pulley on the spindle may of moved. I know on my Fadal its heated up and dropped on the shaft shrink fit. You may have more issues then you think.

    3DExperience Opinions

I am dreading the day of cloud based software only. Its coming. You won't own it, just subscribe to use it. I have been saving all my complete downloads of solidworks, camworks and mastercam. Its seems with every update some of the simple stuff i need to do, gets harder. I got some very old...

automatic band saw levelers or blocks

heavy wall square tubing, add bolt down tabs to the tubing to anchor to floor, and use the saws mounting tabs to bolt to the tubing. You will need to level the saw out, so make sure you can use the adjusters still.

    Material Price Trend?

I have not been able to find any 1/2" thick Brass plate for months now. no one will even give me a timeline for when they will get some. Been able to buy it in 2-6" flat bars though, haven't looked for wider.

    Family business strategy

Having worked in and out of a family business for my whole life, i would say make sure when you have an idea if they are interested in being part of the business you tell them a plan and try to stick to it. My parents are getting very close to retirement and I still don't know their plan for the...

    Small shop material storage?

Not having material here, is a real pain and can hold up work for days/weeks. I live in an area where hoarding of any material is a common thing, as you never know what you will need.

    Small shop material storage?

Thanks guys, given me some ideas. I am 6 hours each way to our main city area and where my family's shop is, that's where I will be getting most material delivered to, then cutting to appropriate sizes then dragging it up with my own trailer. There is a couple fabrication/repair shops in the...

    Small shop material storage?

I am used to having a 60' of floor to 18' up material racking at the family business, which we had storage for odd ball off cuts in pallet type bins for the off cuts. I moved 6 hours from that shop, and live in the woods on a dirt road, 30 minutes from a small town with minimal materials...

Moving a CNC Machine in the Rain

I tried the big shrink wrap boat stuff last month moving two machines. Was a 6.5 hour snow and salt road trip for them through the mountains. My smallish 120v industrial heat gun wouldn't shrink it. Could just do small areas at a time. Ended up using it like a tarp. Some shrink wrap to hold...

    Automation will never replace me

I got into cnc machines because I like making things...I can only make so many things with my own hands. Now with a couple cnc's I can usually make three different things at the same time... or two...if I don't want to manually make anything. Its kind of like having a couple clones of myself

    Grounding machines?

Are you pulling a neutral off it? If not you don't actually need to do anything with it.

    Grounding machines?

Machine has to be tied into the bonding of the electrical system. Up here its not called a ground wire, but a bonding wire. This is what trips the fuses when the something shorts to the metal frame of the machine. The only ground wire in the system is the wire that goes from the neutral bonding...

Cutting long stock on CNC Lathe

Big old Traub CNC Lathe we previously had, first owner when it was brand new, had an employee killed, doing this very thing. He heard some noise and looked around the end of the lathe to find the bar whipping, hit him in the head. You really need to respect these machines.

Hot rolled pickled & oiled sheet - what paint system works?

Have any local wheel abraders? For some jobs we will take hot rolled plate and have it wheel abraded prior to forming and fabrication. Nicer to work with and welding,, and saves on blasting it for prep for powder coating. Big bonus being all the inside lips that are formed are clean as well...
