Exactly! Most ofnthe big stuff that has any weight is going
With scrap at $500 a ton nobody's getting deals. Every bit of that stuff is worth more on the scales than a sane person would pay.

Remember 07-08 scrap prices? When shit got over $300/ton you could fire up and drive 3/4 of the stuff that was scrapped. Good working bulldozers, big old forklifts, cranes, etc. I remember I bought a good running van for $250 and drove to the scrapyard and got $900 for it and had a friend pick me up.

Wow 495 a ton.. its still 110 a ton where I’m at.

Places where I am at now don't list prices on websites, a lot them want you to send an e-mail or call. Last time I hauled scrap, junk steel/castings were $160 a ton but I seriously could not say how long ago that was, maybe a year ago? I wonder if that $495 a ton is for people that bring a huge amount and the smaller scrappers get significantly less. I bet I barely generate 500# of scrap junk steel a year.

You guys realize there's different classes right?

#1 prepared is atleast double what tin price is.

When I haul in 30-40 tons of machine tools for scrap they usually offer me better than their stated #1 prepared price anyway. I have never got the regular Joe price when bringing in a big load.

I once had 240,000 lbs of electric motors. I called a few scrapyards and they thought I was joking. They offered around 12 cents a lb. After I texted pictures to their purchasing guys the price immediately jumped to 25 cents/lb. One of the yards the owner stopped by and had a look.

I understand that, but where I have went there wasn't a big variation on what I would call junk steel or iron castings.

Classes of copper, brass, aluminum, and 300 series stainless can vary a lot in price. Of course even when I scrapped a few machines I never showed up with more that a couple tons of junk steel.

I'm needing some hubs for a Landis cylindrical grinder, they weigh about 13lbs each, I think 2 will fit in a large USPS flat rate box, will gladly pay better than scrap pricing if you have some.

I wish the place was closer, I would go picking by request. The things I do when business is slow don't seem to be as fun as they used to. Maybe throw up a picture of what you are looking for.

Pics of hub needed, I could use 3 or 4 of these if you have them. Note 2 pieces make 1 hub.

I could use some angle plates 3' tall. Long boring bars for horizontal boring mill with morse taper end. The boring head at 44 seconds on tooling video. Tailstock and compound for hardinge dv-59

Still have the Sheldon at beginning of lathe video?

I don't think angle there's many 3 ft tall angle plates. If I part any of the Hardinge put I'll let you know.
