Never heard of anyone feeding coyotes on purpose. I am sure they will eat cat and dog food. Not sure how many people garden in LA, but coyotes will eat watermelons and vegetables besides raiding trash cans. I killed several from my front door when we were growing peanuts. Coyotes get absolutely stupid when gorging on peanuts. You could drop a rock off the peanut combine and hit them while harvesting.
It has been 5 or 6 years since we stopped growing peanuts and have not seen one near the house or shop since. They get caught on game cameras and I hear many not too far away. Someone carrying an ax, shovel, or chainsaw is not unarmed when it comes to non rabid animals. I have killed more rattlesnakes with a shovel than anything else.
I have heard a couple of stories about people being attacked by rabid coons and a bumper jack is not enough.

look at it again, he had a clear shot in 1st second of the vid, it's probably about 20ft away, that's when a warning shot to the ground in front of it would be "exercising restraint", given its body language.
I completely agree with michiganbuck, that cat is a stone cold human predator, a child would be toast. it really needed to be taken care of.
You're right - he had an excellent shot at the very beginning of the video too.

We played a game caller toward the mountains at a California park and did not see one coyote.
Then walking out of the park nearly dark everybody was talking about all the coyotes they saw in the park.
They had come from town and were at our backside.

Child attacked by a coyote in LA, foolish people feeding wild animals is often the reason they lose the fear of people.
No one feeds coyotes. We aren’t stupid.
what has happened is drought and fires, life is really tough for most of the critters right now
lots of places where one side of the street is houses and the other is open space.

bears use peoples swimming pools deer wander around eating shrubbery.
all manner of critters come to the urban edge for water.
there are no stray cats or small dogs out at night, any small pet you want to live
is inside at night

you will go to jail if you shoot em. And it would be unsafe most of the time given the close
proximity to houses.

and there is usually one or two coyote attacks on a small child every year
it’s just the ones some one fought on camera that make the news.

What is funny is you guys blaming the cat for being a cat
the guy went into the cat’s house and is raiding the fridge.

What we don’t see is what was happening before the guy whips out the phone.
Think about it how long would it take to get your phone out, format is wrong for GoPro.
In that environment you better have your head on a swivel looks like a good place to step on a rattler.

good chance that was a young cat that hasn’t learned that man isn’t prey.
that was taken care of that one now knows man not prey.
the other class that are typically involved in human attacks are distressed cats, as in injured,
etc.

If that was California , our illustrious Govoner, Nancy's nephew would have asked for a arrest warrent for the guy in the video for harassing wildlife . I gotto wonder just how long the cat was following that guy & how long did the guy know about it . I live in the northern sierras & finding cat kills are semi common , which supports the deer heards shrinking . The black bears I've been near are ready to run just about the time they see me .

QT .. No one feeds coyotes. We aren’t stupid.

I saw a video of a guy cluk clucking to call a coyote when it came up to him it bit on the guy's boot..likely he had been feeding it to have it come on like that.
Perhaps you are not stupid but I would bet my wife's boots there are people that stupid.

I can't find that video now..but it is on youtube. a good chance that coyote may someday be stalking someone's kid.
I believe I read that there are about 150 coyote people attacks a year.

I yelled at one chasing a doe..it stopped and stood there about 20 feet away sizing me up, I raised my shovel yelled, and chased at it and it scooted real fast.
Another time I missed the trail after dark and a rabbit scooted past followed by a pack of coyotes, they were all around me..and then they scooted. I had my bow and may have had my 38 ..but there was no time to reach for the gun or load the bow.

People should yell at and throw a rock at any lion or coyote that gets close enough ..just to insure that our kids might be safe.

Here is a video showing a guy feeding a coyote at 7:55- 8:00

I shot a coyote once that I saw attack a fawn during deer season . I hit him & he somersaulted once & him & his bud hit the sage brush . After everything simered down we walked to the site & there was blood , but it could have been the fawns , the coyotes or both . Coyotes are one of the scurviest critters I've had occasion to meet . Their also very smart , I watched a coyotes work on a moma cow to seperate her from her calf . A quick shot put's a end to that . My family in the early 1900's had a ranch @ 2 sections in size . And every couple of years they would call the trapper & he'd spend maybe a week studying the coyotes to learn the quanity & their habbits . Then he would trap @ 75 % of the coyotes leaving the others to work on ground squirrels till it was time to go through the motions again .Coyotes are fun to watch hunt in a field the way they jump straight up to pounce on their mouse or ground squirrel . Theres several youtubes of ranchers working on their coyote problems , those videos arn't for all folks though .Lions are a whole nother story . You have respect for them , when you see one in the woods all your attention is on them , Usually by the time you see them they have been watching you for a while . Their majestic the way the walk , they know their the top preadator in Calif next to humans . Their above most black bears . One of the reasons there is such a coyote problem to go along with the decreasing deer heards is that a cat will kill a deer a week . The coyotes will find where the cat buried his kill & they go after it . Following a cat is like food stamps for them . The cat comes back his kill is gone so he just headfs out & grabs another deer . Alot of info on cats is kinda repressed since their protected in CA . Now adas we have some wolves here in nothhern CA . It's going to be interesting when the packs get large enough to threaten more wildlife along with livestock .
end of rant

us natives know about coyotes and don’t like em much.
you need a few but not as many as we have.
it’s them idiots from the east that think they are stray dogs that do the stupid stuff.

The urbanization of wild animals has been going on for a long time.
people are starting to become more see what is actually going on at night in the suburbs
with all the doorbell cameras , and outside security cameras.

the reality is most of the places that have been in drought for a few years
could probably use a little thinning of the predators.

livestock v predators problem how long has that one been going on?
only a few thousand years

so taken out of context
1 crazy Canadians in a park
2 not normal coyotes if they didn’t explain why the look like wolves
most people would think those are wolves.
3 the big take away there was the coyote over populations in the area

I did not own the black Halk, it was my dad's.
My old S&W 38sp was/is plenty good..now with a new barrel that I haven't even tried.
Total agree with you on the 38 smith.
sold my Glock and my sig 226 for more then I paid for them,
If most guys are honest with themself 44mag is too big
unless you load it light in revolvers.
now in a lever gun it really shines.

on the Ruger single actions you take the hammer out and stone the exposed sharp edges
on the Vquero changing to a Blackhawk hammer is a popular mod,
easier to thumb it with one hand.
Rutgers are good guns but they do tend to leave the sharp edges.

I have a momma bear & her cub that live near the top of my mountain , along with a breeding pair of bobcats . They don't bother us , Ive even seen one of teh bobcats in the middle of the day looking over the meadow below . We have a guy maybe 2 1/2 -3 miles as the crow flies recently this year he has captured 4 lions running together several times . Thats the key ingrediants for deer heard decimation . We have a yuppie town not all that far maybe 8-9 miles away Graeagle CA . Folks move up here leave their dog & cat food on their decks/ front porches . Their cats & dogs go missing . They see lions & coyotes on their ring cameras & they still leave their pet food outside , IF YOUR DICK HURTS TAKE IT OUT OF THE FAN !!. I did a job maybe 20-25 years back in a game refuge . We built a real long garage so the guy could drive home & but his truck & boat in the garage without un hooking the trailer . I start doing all my trim & they start bringing 33 gallon plastic garbage cans in that are heavier than hell . One says deer feed , another squirrel feed another bird food , they must have had 6 of these cans . I told them it was illeagal . to feed the wildlife even after I explined that these animals get so accomsted to all this high quality free food & then when the people go home for winter the critters dont know how to forage for their food . They wouldnt believe me . These are the same people that load up the gamily & a cooler in their fancy 4 wd with all the crome & go out looking for a Christmas tree . Eventually they get stuck in 2 1/2 feet of snow & they call 911 .
The first foot wasn't enough , the first foot & a 1/2 wasn't enough , you can see where this is going , we're back to the Fan .....
