Surplusjohn, Many thanks for the information about the construction. It will help in not jumping to conclusions about the age of a box.

I have a question about the maker of this tool box:

Who is SJ Co? I suspect it is Steven Jennings & Co. from Deep River CT. Anyone know?

John Scherr Company, NY. Not sure of the age. It's currently in use at my workplace.

Ah thank you. It's GEORGE Scherr. The decal has the red stamp on it, but the side with the first name is missing. Also it seems to be a 1102 model from 1945 - 1950 time frame.
Also missing the handbook drawer, one of those get-around-toit things I've been meaning to get to.
