Being a First Nation ( Native American ) person,
I go by " Native Time ", and I don't like watches.
Besides, there are alot of clocks hanging around
anytime I go to town. If I have an appointment, I
just make sure I give myself plenty of time to
get there, better to be early than late.

When I wear a watch, I wear a (digital) Mariner Tide Watch. This is not to be confused with a typical "tide watch"...which are usually tiny graph cycle representations, difficult to read, and only give a vague approximation of the situation.

This watch is tide first and time secondary, complete with image of shoreline (incl a light house !) and cutaway graphic of underwater from high to low..like you're looking at actual image of the water level, with great precision.

Funny I know, but somehow more "comforting" and "obvious the actual state of things at quick glance" than the analog hand type or the other digital types.

Company apparently went out of business in 2000, as they couldn't afford to tool up for the Y2K crisis ! Sure enough, it won't read the year beyond 1999, but still works great in spite of that.

Don, can't think of anything which will be more useful. Does it do Mountains and the Mediterranean?

A bit like having sex standing up in a hammock.
Something for when you have done everything else?

Just a thought from those who who have to make the decision of burning a candle or eating it.

(Seriously fascinating, but don't let him get too excited)

Never worn one. My wife gave me a very nice "antique" pocket watch once, but it never ran for more than 4 or 5 days before it stopped ticking. Tried a number of things to have it fixed, none worked. Sigh of relief.

A Hamilton 940 with a Montgomery double sunk dial in a nickel silver case. Front and rear bezels are removable. I wear it in the watch pocket of my jeans. I have a leather strap which has a watch fob on it. That is my story and I am stickin to it. John

I have a small stable of waltham's and so forth, but I don't wear them, since I have too much otehr stuff in my pockets.

As for wristwatches, I can kill any wristwatch... After a while it will look fine, but it won't run.

Had a self-winder Timex years ago... worked fine until I helped someone move..... wound the winding weight right off its little axle....

Now, I can't deal with them. They get caught on stuff, etc'etc. etc..... And I got tired of the "pocketwatch clunk" when I leaned over something and whanged it on the table/base/whatever.

Don't wear any. Can't remmember last I had one on.
Same here ... no watch, no ring. Who needs a watch when the buzzer sounds at the two most important times in the day -- lunch time & quitting time.

There is also the point that if you stop wearing a watch, you will develop a pretty good sense of time.

Try deciding to wake up at a particular time in the morning..... most people can do it......

Then also, most people can develop the ability to know the time from other cues.... within 15 min or 1/2 hour. Who really needs to be closer than that on overall time?

Now, of course, if you have to be somewhere at a particular time to satisfy someone, then a watch can be good. But, it really isn't THAT much help, since the clock you REALLY need is THEIRS, not yours.

If you are on time by your watch, and late by theirs, you are still late, no matter if yours is right, and theirs is 15 min wrong. So, again, wearing the watch isn't that helpful.

I have two Seiko Kinetics. Along the same lines of self-winding movements these are self-charging quartz movements. One has a glass back so you can see the little generator that charges the battery; amazing piece of technology!

Got an Omega I wore for a long time. Crystal got kinda scratched up and couldn't afford to buy a new one. Wear a Bulova that ABC sent me for my 800 series with a backup from a 300 game.

Watches...
Daddy dragged out a box a year ago to show me a watch I had mentioned seeing in a pawn shop on the way to visit him. He had one just like it, and about 100 others of various sizes, styles and values. Turned out he and my half sister had both been picking them up at yard sales and taking them to an old watch repair guy located just north of him. They were trying to keep the old guy busy and food on his table, so they bought all the pocket watches they could find. Some were very nice pieces. I don't expect to ever see them again, since I won't inherit any of my Daddy's estate.

I don't wear a watch, use an alarm clock but after that I will get to it when I get to it.
Sort of my backlash from having to be everywhere in the military early only to end up waiting on some moron.

I like J. Tiers comments. When I was an apprentice neither my journeyman nor I carried a watch. Out in the field all day, we were never late to the barn for quitting time. I don't carry a watch; no rings, no cell phone, no PDA, nothing that clips to my ear whatever those things are. I get by quite fine.

As a "watch-killer" and one who is right handed who also wears watch on Right hand in a machine shop (left wrist broken too many times to wear watch comfortably, plus it has been in casts so much i got used to wearing on R-H).
I am very happy with the accuracy and especially the ruggedness of Festina watches. I have a Ti beater that i use in the shop and a crono-bike for when I am "cleaned up".

Oh, and "weld-spatter" is no problem in my shop as I have never owned a wire feed and cannot stand arc welding (spatter/smoke).......If I can't Tig it or braze it.............it doesn't get welded in my shop.

I either wear the Seiko that my parents gave me when I graduated high school in 1974, or my Dad's everyday Pulsar that Mom game me when he passed away last year. Mom still has 2 watches that Dad got on his 25th and 50th years of service. I'll end up with those one of these days.

Oh, I heard about this watch, but I didn’t know that it is so durable. My friends knew how much I love Rolexes and gave me a watch for $ 2,000 at Christmas. But once I accidentally fell and my watch broke and I started looking a new, high-quality model. I was advised to test the watches from G-SHOCK, and I decided to read the g shock watch review. According to the reviews of people, I realized that this is really a quality thing and decided to order. And for two weeks now I have been waiting for my order, and I already eager to open the box with a new watch.

Miscellaneous analog quartz watches with "Japan movement" for everyday. No tears if it gets busted and has to be tossed. Used to buy the ones sold by Sharp until they switched to Chinese movements.

I modify the size of the expansion bands myself and change my own batteries. I've got a small kit that includes various tools including a crab and a cheap watch press.

Watch goes in pocket if working on machines, welding etc. I was taught to have nothing past the elbows around machinery by an instructor who had a finger missing where a ring got caught.

An older Seiko for "dress" wear. Not at all a fancy person and a fancy watch on me would be like "lipstick on a pig".
