Loaded up in Detroit midday today. They say they'll be in SC 8:00 in the morning !
Great service from Aaron Sawikji, Riverside Rigging ! (810) 305-0153.
Looks like truck just has my machine, plus a few bits I got in the sale.

boy that's exciting, keep us posted on the commissioning of the old girl. I have the auction fever myself and just love seeing where machines like this end up. Hope to drag a few home myself one day.

I'm glad you chose not to DIY this for your first bigger machine. Now you get to see how the pros do it so you have some frame of reference instead of just flying into it blind.

Too much to go wrong, really wrong, to move this machine across multiple states on a light trailer behind a pickup without prior experience.

Now you could do that short trip on your gooseneck and rent a forklift or better yet, just hire the hauling to a company with a Landoll and skip a forklift altogether. Or I'm sure the riggers will be happy to take your money and all you do is point where it goes.

I got the coolant tank and chip tray off the truck.
This is how the previous owner (CTS Manufacturing) presented it for the sale. WOW !
I feel very good about this machine.
And also the Cat 40 tools the auctioneer threw on the truck.
Tell me, they seem to be metric threads for pull studs, so therefore maybe BT tapers ? Does that mean I can interchange Cat 40 & BT on the machine with the correct pull studs ?

You know, I posted looking for advice, and listened. Thanks to all.

I am unclear if you are happy with the coolant tank, or not?

Sorry, but I am really impressed how clean it is. I've not had a chance to look at the machine properly yet, but what I have seen seems to be really clean and well presented.
Makes me feel very good about the overall condition of the machine.
Please excuse my excitement !

Those are BT40. BT40 and Cat40 do not interchange. It's not the pullstuds. You can get any pullstud for BT or CT. It's the gripper height. MTB's usually have different grippers they use for BT VS Cat machines.

Have you verified the machine is Cat40 and not BT40? If you don't know you'll have to do some careful measuring of the gripper height before you load a tool.

Garwood,
Thanks for info.
The rigger told me that the BT40's were off the Mazak, so if he's right, then its a BT40 machine.
Once I have the machine set-up I plan to get a freelance ex Mazak tech to come start it up for me, replace batteries, etc. He should be able to tell me.
You refer to "grippers". Are you talking about the spindle or the magazine please ?

Yep, opened the doors and I can see the gripper for the toolchanger.
What a darned nuisance that there's so many different standards for basically the same thing.
Maybe BT 40 is less popular, and cheaper, lol.

Everywhere that's not America, BT40 is everywhere. Cat tapers are 3:1 more popular in the US which is a good and bad thing.

The good part is BT40 is very affordable and available to buy used. You'll have an easy time if you want to buy used. On the other hand, BT40 is not well stocked new.

I have tooled up both BT40 and Cat40 CNC's and it was far cheaper to tool up BT40.

Cat40 is the most expensive to tool up. Every Cat40 tool on Ebay is junk. Cat40 goes for top dollar at auctions. Might as well buy new.

I believe my machine is currently set up for BT40 toolholders, but I bought a bunch of Cat40 in advance, thinking it was Cat 40.
So it seems the grippers in the tool magazine are different.
The machine will take a toolholder from a specific position, and put it back in same spot.
So, could I mix and match BT40 and Cat40 grippers in the magazine ?
Say yes !! it would save me quite a bit of money.

25 tool holders! decent! there is $3000 or so.
and NO dont mix, sell and buy the right ones.
BT40 is correct on that machine, pretty usual on non US made machines. Got mine as a BT40. Basically the same but not. Pull studs can be a couple different sizes on BT 40 alone. find the manual can see what it says for angles and lengths. and yes metric.
