ok then, the other option is to spend about $100,000 on a new lathe to do the job....... or find a good used one in the 50K range.
see farming it out to someone for $1000 is cheaper and more efficient if that is what he is really looking for is efficiency.
thats nuts!
he can buy one of these machines for a 1000.00 to 1500.00 ALL the time. he can set his mach up for a bit less.
me persanly i think what little he saves ( for me ) would not be worth setting his machine up.

i dont see a issue with tossing it out there. having some other shop make these is a great option but he has stated he is going to make them.

A DSM, or cousin, would be perfect for this staying with manual machines.
If you can run a lathe you can set one up. It ain't rocket science
The turret is small which means its fast to go around because you are not swinging any weight.
The cutoff attachment is the cats meow
Larger turrets are cumbersome and you wont like it for those small parts.
I have two, both are setup for specific jobs, one does stepped pins and holds very good specs.
They do have coolant tanks, if the pump is gone just buy one from Travers etc, you dont need a big one, just run 1/4 loc-line.
The little buger has made 600+/- so far for the job, about 2700 to go. (we do about 60/70 per run)
If you go the DSM route Pm me , be glad to help you get started

I've got a flip-down drill too, it mounts on the turret and it flips down when I need it.... =) Also have regular tailstock drill too.
Headstock cut-off attachment is indeed amazing.
