Yes, the scrappers call them "ballasts", and they have some value. Not sure of the current rates.
Really?
Have like 80+ 8 foot guys.
End of year shop cleaning and dumpster time for them.

How much time and money is it worth to find someone/somewhere that wants to pay?
This a real question. My billable time is xx, my off the clock time is $1.00 or less per hour.

For you it's probably not worth it, but if you had an employee who wanted to make a few extra bucks it might. I have a price of $.13/lb for them from my local (NH) scrapper from May/22, not sure how representative that would be for your area.

I knew a guy had a small scrapyard down by the port .....name was Fat Alan Lewitsky.........anyhoo,he would go round picking up the homeless drunks and take them back to the yard ,where he set them to work scrapping all sorts of small stuff, like deskfans, power tools, light fittings ,small electrics ......it was sort of a rehab centre ,and he made a bit from the copper..... unfortunately one of the TV scandal programs called it a "slave labour camp".....and made a big deal out of the shed where they lived.............it was no different to these E waste salvage centres you see all over the place now.

From 2-3 months ago when I wrote down prices, getting close to a scrap run. Since then prices are:
Copper -20%
You posted the above on July 17th, 2022.

On July 15 copper hit a low of something like $3.23 but as I write this it is north of $3.80. A couple of months before July 15 (2022) copper was selling at an all time high well over $4/lb. You can check the historical copper prices at kitcometals.com. Yes, the copper market came off that historic high but the truth is you just were too late. Just because you missed the peak price does not mean we are heading into a recession. (Not saying we aren't, only that the spot price of copper is a lousy indicator.)

Checked last week and 316 turnings were back up to $0.50/lb(CAD). Still pretty low vs the $1.20/lb from early this year but it is what it is.
Raw materials haven't gone down any, some are still going up due to ongoing shortages. I guess we'll see how long this lasts and who'll be the first to capitulate with these rising interest rates and so on. Fun times...

316 is priced on nickle price, which is back to around $22/kg........whether copper is actually down or the US $ is up is a situation dependant on where you stand.........as I see it ,next scrap event in the short term will be what happens in China covid wise.

Right now some stainless/material is priced on whether you can get any or not, and if the supplier knows they have the last piece of it in the country.

The next scrap event is gonna have a lot more to do with high interest rates crashing everything than whatever China is up to with the lab virus psyop.

I had some nice full sheets of 8mm 316 plate on top of a container.......took it off ,and laid it on the ground........next I look its gone, the Afgans are using my stainless sheets to unbog their forklifts from the quagmire they have created .....one sheet is being used as a container ramp......all bulged and bent .

2-days ago I got $0.30 per pound for 321 stainless steel foil, and $4.00 per pound for Inconel 600 foil, here in CT. Back in June, the stainless was $0.55, and the Inconel was $3.65. I'm assuming the Inconel is up due to the nickel content/Ukraine war, however, the stainless seems to be way off - not sure why?

Just some type of pelletizer, friend called me for advice and I just walked him thru the online quote system. It is possible he did something wrong, but I had already warned him it was going to be insane, I was getting quotes on a similar sized load 2 months ago, SoCal. to Northern Nevada, they ranged from $800 to $1600:nutter:
Dude,

Try Unishippers- I shipped a 4 head molder less than 3 weeks ago, crate size was 60" x 95" x 60" high - weighed 3200 lbs, fully crated. Spokane WA dock drop off to somewhere in Florida - business w/ forklift $860 I was shocked

Local scrappers load all the "small electrics" into a shipping container ,and send it to Chinese scrap factorys in Africa......all the Chinese detail scrappers have moved to Africa since the bans.
