I know this is not what the OP was asking, but one thing I don't think has been mentioned - a repeat* order may come through with drawing revisions. Those extra parts you might have kept (hoping for another order) are now junk. The industry I worked in was constantly modifying designs and occasionally this did happen. And we sometimes ordered extra parts thinking they would be used on the next machine....they sometimes became scrap too.
