You're still driving it 18 years later, aren't you?

Pshh, I would!

I spent the last 8 months looking for a nice, clean 20-30 year old truck to make my new daily driver.

The prices are just friggin insane. I am not going to pay more than $10k for any vehicle, certainly not $18k on a 30 year old truck.

I damn sure am not going to borrow FRN's from the bank to spend $48k at 7% interest on some new garbage that I don't like, cannot work on and doesn't even make me money.

Last month I found a real clean 2000 F won fiddy for $2k that needs an engine and steering / suspension parts... she'll do just fine.

Excluding this truck, I've spent a grand total of $3600 to maintain my clapped out old Audi A4 for the last 5 years.

If my garbage can carry me to the same places as a new vehicle - and in the same amount of time - why buy new?

Buy assets, not liabilities.

Best I can figure, it's just lighting money on fire to sustain an ego driven image. No thanks.

I'm with you on the "drive it until it dies" thing. The truck that I pull my fifth wheel (Luxury fifth wheel for the peanut gallery) with is a 2004 GMC Duramax, same year as f16's ride that he hates so much. But I like my truck except for one problem that I recently fixed. Same problem that f16 had too and if he wasn't such a jerk I'd have told him what he needed to do to fix it. It was about a two hour repair.

F16 reminds me of one of my late uncles. He bought a new Chevy pickup back in about 94 and always said that he hated it. He also got the GM discount on it. I never heard him say a good word about that truck and he brought it up often to needle me just like f16 does. He drove that truck (his nickname for it was puke) for about 30 years.

Most people with any sense would sell a vehicle and get something else if they hated the so much but some people just need something to bitch about. If my uncle was still alive I'd almost think he was f16, the way he goes on and on about his vehicle.

BTW, the part that was faulty on my truck wasn't made by a UAW member unless they have UAW plants in Mexico.

Real odd you nailed the age of that vehicle, I mentioned it's age once. Do you have a file on all your PM enemies? The only reason it is still alive is who drives it. I seem to have a sharp nose for electrical issue smells and replaced a blower fan potentiometer before it caught fire, it was melted from over heating. I am the master of keeping old junk alive, I pride myself in keeping things out of the landfill or junkyard even if I can afford to replace them. I suppose I am a greenie in a Republicans body.

Can you smell the DC smoke too or just the AC smoke?

Usually when people complain about a American truck like that what really happened even so with the GM coupon he did not buy enough truck did he? Your Uncle reminds me of many who just switched to imports-Japanese. It was close for a while with me too as I constantly had to repair myself. I did start with a VW Bug though and had to repair that one a lot too. Cars and trucks are so much better now a days.

Uncle had enough truck. He was just a jerk that liked to try to get me going about working at GM just like some others that I know of. I just figured that he was jealous.

My first car was also a beetle and I had to repair the engine before I could drive it. Found out that a farmer had it sitting in his barn. It was his sons and his son was away at college and they bought him something different. I got it for $50 when I was 15 and took the engine out and found out that it had a broken exhaust valve on the #3 cylinder which was very common for many years due to the placement of the oil cooler.

It was a really cool bug with a hard top crank open sunroof. I had it going by the time I got my license. Unfortunately I found out another quirky thing about beetles. The like to roll over. Mine had the old swing arm suspension in the rear and that made the more prone to rolling over than cars with traditional suspension.

I owned several of them after the first one, mostly with the same problem but we had a place near us that dealt in used VW parts. I bought a used head and piston with rings in a jug for $20.

It was fun back then but I don't have any inclination to drive one full time again but I did buy another one the same year as my first car a long time ago and it hasn't got a broken valve so I'm not going to drive it until/if I replace the exhaust valves with stainless valves.

Thanks for prompting the trip down memory lane.

You are delusional, no one is jealous of you. You needed a union to protect you, because you were a low skilled slacker, that is obvious. Your posts here prove that.

Never needed a union to keep my job for me.

There are folks that need that and they can talk a good game, but when it comes to DOING stuff, they're in the shitter watching porn.

Much like the fuckwad talking about his imaginary truck that he bought after owning a german POS car that he got somebody else to fix for him.

What a dooooosh.

The lease on my blazer rs is up in october...my biggest issue is I really don't know what to get. Truck prices are absurd, nothing really floats my boat. I'm a gm guy but I'm seriously leaning towards an explorer st...my mortgage is 1600 a month, I can't see spending more than half that for a half ton truck...yeah I'm one of those guys that goes for fully loaded or nothing lol. It's not the matter of being able to afford the payments it's just the principal of the matter.

I'm with you on the principal matter. If people would stop taking on $60k loans for trucks, the prices would come down. GM was sooo proud to offer the first $100k factory built pick up with the high country Silverado. Now all three have options over that.

When your lease is up, sell the pay off rights to a private party buyer who will not need wiggle room for resale profit.

Then go buy a real truck :)

You'd get way more smiles per mile out of an ol' square body over something that costs $1200 a month in payments and insurance.

Come again?

If you'd learn to control your emotions like a man and conduct yourself properly in public spaces, I bet you'd have more friends - or at least a few less enemies.

You can have that one for free, something to think about during your impending time out. :nopity:

I/we needed a union to negotiate wages and benefits and it worked out pretty well. I miss the people that I worked with but not the daily grind. For those like you that like working so much that you plan to work until you draw your last breath, good for you.

And you keep posting that you think that I'm autistic because I repeat things but you've posted that you don't think that I know anything about machining about 20 times now.

That's a good looking truck. Very similar to my first truck, a 76 short box stepside in black. You must not get salt on the roads where you live. Mine had a fair amount of rust that I repaired before I had it painted. Cab corners were the worst.

It's not mine, shamelessly stolen from the interwebs. I'm in Ohio, unfortunately they aren't shy about the salt here.

I've got a rust free 78 f150 short bed but it's one of those "when I get around to it" projects, it's no where near as clean as that square body.

Not cool dude, you didn't watch the game from the beginning. Big B has been crapping on people who shared the pain of
losing loved ones, once again stooping to the point where if he did that in person would get even the Pope to take a swing at him.

You have NEVER demonstrated any knowledge of machining. I will repeat that anytime you claim to have been a tool & die maker. What you keep repeating are baseless insults, I repeat facts. Once again for the 100th time when are you going to demonstrate any knowledge of machining, even on a year one level?

Your union worked out well for you and your low skilled slacking brothers as evidenced by GM needing to file bankruptcy and get a bail out. Strange how you rip on Trump for filing bankruptcy on 1/100th of his businesses but you are fine with what GM did. Care to explain that?
