Episode 22: Why You Must Be Protective of Your Time

April 16, 2021 12:07 pm

Ian walks us through some of the rules he tries to abide by in order to protect his time as somebody who’s running a machine shop.

When it comes to the machining business – and to life in general – all you have is your time. If you are a machinist in a shop, you are selling your time to your employer in order to pay your bills; if you are the owner of the shop, you are selling your customers your company’s time in order to generate revenue and ultimately pay the bills. Because of that, you need to be extremely protective of your time and make sure you use the right way and don’t waste it doing pointless tasks. The question is, what’s the best way to understand when it’s worth spending your time on something and how much time should you spend doing a particular activity/task?

Ian has a set of personal rules he tries to follow in order to protect and manage his time as a machine shop owner and in this episode he explains how he came up with them and provides examples of when they apply.
