Episode 40: Machining a Vane Pump [PROJECT VLOG]
Have you ever machined vane pumps? Ian Sandusky did… many times! In this video, he shows how his shop gets these parts done, walking us through the project step-by-step.
Vane pumps are parts that many machine shops often have to deal with. They are commonly used in a wide variety of applications, ranging from the automotive to the food&beverage industry. Depending on their features, they can be a pretty tricky part to machine as tolerances are often pretty tight.
For Ian and his shop, machining this part has become a pretty “standard” and profitable job, as they have been making them multiple times and have been optimizing the process throughout the years. It hasn’t always been as easy though and it took Ian and his team a lot of time and iterations to get to the optimal process.
In this video, Ian discusses how they adapted overtime to turn this project into a money-maker and takes us through the process he and his team run through when they make these parts, showcasing how they combine old technology with new technology to make really accurate parts.
