It is forged and it was made by ajax. If you weigh it you will know the weight.
The numbers under the ajax are its weight in "stone", there should be 3 numbers and it looks like the middle number is worn or faint. It is old, maybe 1800's.
What else would you want to know?

I have no experience with Ajax anvils, but just wondering... if it is an Ajax, would the stamping be so sloppy? If it is forged, would it would it have what appears to be fractures or spalling along the edge of the face?
and..would anyone bother to counterfeit an Ajax?

upon review of the picture, it is clear there is other lettering behind the "AJAX" (I see at least an S).. and it is also obvious the AJAX was stamped in AFTER some of the dings and "test marks" were there. I.E. , this is almost certainly NOT an Ajax..
