Information about this Blackenberry & Austin bench lathe ?

Hi, was wanting information about threading,
Have set of change gears, also cross slide
doesn’t seem original? Also have, 3 & 4 Jaw chucks, face plate.
Also some tooling. Have fitted motor with forward and reverse.
Guard is missing. Any information would be
Appreciated about this lathe. Numbers stamped on bed & associated
parts 955.

Welcome to PM, there are a few Brackenbury & Austin threads you can find.

If you enter "Brackenbury" (note spelling!) into the forum search, you will find several posts about these lathes, e.g.


I think it would help if you posted again on the "Antique Machinery" forum.

PM member franco has one of these lathes and has written about change gears and the change gear chart.

In bits and pieces, have managed to clean & assemble
now getting the bug !!! Thanks for the info will do as you suggested .

Hi Ron,

Also check the Brackenbury and Austin information on the lathes.co.uk website - there is a list of the change gears supplied with my B & A (no.1049) in 1948 there.

The original cross slide has two T slots parallel to the bed - can't see the details of yours in any of your photos.

Thanks for your information been
very helpful ! Got to do some calculations on pulley sizes. Saw in one of the posts the speeds recommended. Also have Emco Unimat 3 I’m cleaning up & fitting 150W dc motor for lathe & mill. fwd & rev variable speed, getting to many projects !
