Why castings?
Fast 3 jaw chuck job. If you find plate, drill press or mill. Mere 1018, drill-pointed recess, mod the screw foot accordingly. Ideally, that angle is just lesser than recess with a band of contact. Wipe a little grease on it, boom.
Before starting to level, I measure the pitch, and divide that into halves and thirds. Add one dot of paint marker to 'clock' turns. Once level settles, it's evident what distance between screws produces "X" amount of movement per turn of jackscrew.
