I am disassembling a 104 work head and can't seem to get the spindle off of the front bearing stack. Do you have any cross section showing how it is put together? This is the ball bearing headstock, which has a 4 point dividing sleeve in the middle. Thanks.

I just now saw this. Sorry for the delay.

The diagram I have is for a sleeve bearing version. The only thing I saw there that might be of help is that they show a front dust cap. From the diagram you cannot tell if it is attached to the spindle or the housing- or how it is retained. If there is any old paint - see what is under it. The same for any old grease. I have found the best way to cut through very old grease is Gumout carb and choke cleaner and a brass brush. You may need to wrap the area with a strip of paper towel. After soaking it with the spray wrap it with aluminum foil to slow the evaporation.

They also show what appears to be a screw going through the spindle to go in the collet slot so it does not spin. They show a hole through the sleeve bearing in that area- and an oil cup with a passage leading to it. If you have any grease cups in the area- see if there are any screws under the grease. There also may be retaining screws buried under old paint.

If you have not gotten it apart yet consider starting a new thread in the Antique forum- and include pictures.

Thanks, but I managed to get it apart. It was just tighter than I would have expected. New bearings, a clean up, and paint and it works and looks great. Seems like a well made unit.
