What toes slotter tooling look like? I have the slotting attachment for my B&S #2 mill but it didn't come with any of the cutters and I've never actually seen a slotter in use. I have to make two ends for a drive shaft for my 1910 Mitchell. They have a 1" square hole, 1-3/4 deep on one end and a round hole for a 1-3/8 shaft on the other end. The round end is slotted for a Woodruff key. I've about given up on finding a square hole sleeve I can modify so I'm trying to imagine how I could make these.

The Cincinnatti slotter tooling is much the same ,and a lot more common than that B/port...........not impossible to make your own ,but having the HSS heat treated is costly........Ive got the Cinci wood block and a set of cutters here somewhere .....last I noticed the wood block had big taps stored in it .

Some of it looks similar to boring tool - with the cutting edge repostioned to suit. Here is the cover of a P&W "vertical shaper" catalog with a tool in the cut, heading down

If you slot on your mill, use the outrigger tie bars to stop the thing flexing excessively.....if the slotter is driven by the spindle ,feather the clutch so the tool doesnt get broken with a sudden bite ...........i found the mill accessory slotters difficult to use compared to a dedicated slotter.
