Just bought this off of the "bay". purchased it for a customer project to reach into way grooves, but that job is in another post.

However this thing has me questioning what it's original intended use? must have been for "production", right? paint pen dated 11/1/60 but no idea what the date was for and clearly added much later than when it was originally made.

tailstock body key ways? the step is 2" by 3/4", 27-3/4 OAL, 41 lbs!
opinions welcome (within reason)

Never mind, I see the word tailstock now in the stamped info on the side.... missed it before.

It says it is for the keyslot "in tailstock body." That does suggest a lathe, but presumable a big one.

I was thinking this must have been for the offset adjustment key slot that aligns the body to the base of a tailstock on a rather large lathe, but it's larger than any I have ever seen.

Could be from a centering machine where the headstock and tail stock have to be perfect centerline. Or some special machine. I bought a maintenance shop tool crib at a defense plant years ago and there all sorts of weird specials straight edges.....I didn't care....lol

Yep, doesn't matter as long as it does the job! I just need to get it on my surface plate and check it out, should be well settled after that many years.
