I am trying to find out the age of my old #2 W/S lathe.
I keep telling people that it is an 1890"s machine , but I am not really sure .
The founders of my shop told me that during WW2 this machine made more $ than any other machine in the shop. It still gets used as a daily runner , cutting lots of snap ring grooves , and with the help
of the mechanical bar feeder, 1,000's of tube spacers.
It is still running a flat belt to a 2 HP motor on top .
collets to 1" definately NOT FOR SALE

this is what the name plate says :

70 ---------- NO 2--------
202 -------------------------128062

thanks for any help
Bob

Old Iron still earing their keep

Its Really nice to hear about the #2 still going. My #3 roundhead did very well for me in December. Love to see a picture of yours.

I will try to post a photo . not very pretty . all covered with oil and gunk.
This is a small, collet nose , manual- no feeds, similar to what Hardinge
considered a second op machine. In fact I just got a 300 pc order added to a 500 pc backlog to cut some tube spacers.
I also have a #3 W/S , nicely tooled with a 12" 3 jaw .
Plus the bigger 2A that is semi retired , but still wired .
All this plus 4 CNC's keeps this 1 1/2 man shop really busy .

Agree, someone says they have a machine still running good parts made in the 19th century pictures should be mandatory.

Would love to see some pics of this. I had a chance at buying a really old W&S that was the size of a South Bend 10L. It was really cute but not really useful to me. If 128062 is the serial then its prior to 1920 which was serial 165000.

I hope flat belt is cleaning the machine up for the photo shoot.
Someone please send me to a tutorial on how the post a photo. I do not have a smart phone , but can I just attach a Jpeg from my digital camera?
I was running this machine all day today finishing up a 1,200 pc order .
Arm is sore from latching the collet closer/bar feeder lever .
Had to go to hf to get padded palm mechanics gloves. Not planning to clean it up . This is a daily driver and has drip oilers on the spindle.
flood coolant , had to put the skimmer on overnight to get the oil out .

Upload from the camera to the PC, use the insert image icon which is third from the right. That is the easiest way to do it and you don't end up with machines laying on their side like a lot of ones in the for sale section.
