All 10EEs are listed as 12.5" swing, but the actual height above the ways is 0.5" higher for a square-dial. A round-dial tailstock won't fit a square-dial.

The upper casting on a round dial and square dial tailstock are interchangeable. The lower casting is ½" higher on a square dial. So if you can find a square dial lower casting you can convert a round dial tailstock. A few other parts are different as well, such as the large eyebolt that is used to clamp the tailstock to the bed. I haven't tried it, but I think that the later square dial tailstock with the larger dia. ram should be convertible to use on a round dial if you swap parts the other direction.

That is good information. I actually have a tailstock for a Round Dial, so if I understand correctly, if I can find a base for a square dial tailstock, I could combine them to get it to work. So....any bases out there???

I have a square dial base. The only problem is that someone turcited the ways. I've never used a tailstock with turcite on the ways, but others who have say that it causes the tailstock to slip. So if you want to remove the turcite, you should be able to get it to work. $25 plus shipping. No guarantees. I may also have an unmachined eyebolt forging, I bought an extra from McMaster when building Sneebot's steady rest. I will have to check. Price will be whatever McMaster charged me.

Sure I would be willing to do that.
