I've seen an HLV steady rest and this is not it. It looks identical to the HLV-H one, just with a narrow dovetail for the HLV's narrow bed

Does it line up with your spindle center line? If so, it may be an aftermarket unit. I am with CE it does not look like Hardinge. Maybe from a very early machine?

Yep, from the design features, it's for a Barnes lathe. Somebody's gonna want that for sure.
