I’ve seen several questions regarding lifting instructions for L&S Powerturn lathes. These are the instructions I found in my manual.

I think the factory instructions leave a lot to be desired. I had a Powerturn, much longer than shown. I'm pretty certain if I had lifted mine like shown it would have rolled over. The motor hanging off the back made the front to back balance about the center of the rear way. And with the chains at the end of the wood block, it wouldn't take much of an angle and the chain would slip off. In today's world, where are you even going to find a piece of wood like that you would trust to lift a 8,000#+ lathe?

I’ve lifted lathes roughly that size with the same methods. Having said that it was only from A to B in the same shop and the lathe never went more than a couple of inches off the ground.

By the way, if you read the written instructions the lathe is being lifted on a square metal bar. The wood referred to is just to protect the ways.

Regards Tyrone.

Andy,
We moved my 2013 Powerturn several months ago from 40 miles away. Agree with gbent, not a big fan of chains under those beds with blocking that could slip. Rigger used new lifting slings directly in line with chuck neck to help control any potential for rolling and also a sling at tailstock area. Any Powerturn over 30" between centers will have to have the tailstock sling in place. Send PM and I can shoot pics of the beast in tow. The slings can easily handle the weight in question
