I finally got a “big” lathe .
Big to me, anyway.
Ad pics showed “MR-1500” on the bed casting, so I found brochures showing the spec differences between MS, MR and MH models.
All MR models show 2-3/64” spindle bore & 20.5” swing.
All MH models show 3” bore and 24” swing.
When I went to see the lathe in person, I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at the spindle bore. “That looks big!” Again, big to me anyway.
Tape measure showed 3”. I was very happy.
Heck, I can barely fit a jumbo pencil through the Monarch bores!!
I emailed Greer Machinery & they told me both have the same bore size. Was there updates? Everywhere I’ve looked online, including the original dealer brochure this lathe came with, says the MR-1500 comes with the 2-3/64 bore, not 3”.
Maybe the bed castings are the same and the early MH still said MR on the beds?
