How to Cut a Radius on the Corner of a Part - Programming Technique

Situation: you need to cut a radius on a corner of a part but the corner rounding mill doesn’t meet the part specs. What do you do? Here’s a practical solution.

When jobs require producing a radius on the corner of a part, the typical and usually most efficient tool to get the job done is a corner radius forming tool (shorturl.at/goKLU). These tools work very well to cut down the edges of a part and are fairly inexpensive. However, they come with some limitations.

For the most part, they come in nominal sizes, so there might be situations when the size of the radius you need to cut won’t match the size of the rounding tool. What happens then? You might choose to go with a custom ground tool, but that might not be the most efficient way to go about it.

Matt Schmelzer demonstrates how the job can be done using a ball nose end mill (shorturl.at/xIO27) and walks us step-by-step through the programming technique involved in the process.
