Have you ever had to spend days – or even weeks – trying to troubleshoot a job where nothing seemed to work? Believe it or not – you may be able to get grants to help cover the expenses incurred when doing research and experimentation in your manufacturing business!

In this episode of MACHINE SHOP TALK, Ian Sandusky from Lakewood Machine & Tool is diving into this often-overlooked avenue that could seriously help your shop.
Known as R&E (Research and Experimentation) in the US, and SRED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) in Canada, these programs are put forth by the government to help advance manufacturing right here at home. Whether you’re trying to figure out a better way to make deep slots, eliminate material stress, or figure out a way to get a job done faster and more effectively – your expenses may be eligible to be claimed to help ease the burden.
While many shops feel that since they’re not sending parts to the bottom of the ocean or all the way to the moon – they may not qualify, the reality is that grants and funding are available for all levels of manufacturing advancement.
Has YOUR shop ever been involved with R&E / SRED? What advice would you give to a shop looking at taking this route for the first time?
