I hope that I am not repeating a question that has already been asked, but after spending several hours reading different post on this subject, I am still a bit stumped.

I tried to reinitialize my machine (1988 QT 8 T2 Control). I followed the procedure from the Mazak Bulletin No. 0989-002. I was able to punch in most of my parameters, except some I was unable to change. I reread the bulletin and followed the instructions for "In some rare cases the control refuses to allow any parameter to be set."

I then tried to input the ones that it didn't allow me to change and still no luck. My guess is that I didn't do something right. I believe its about 5 parameters that I can not change (circled in red in picture, supposed to be 0). I also do not have a parameter list for parameter pages Machine No. 4 and Other, its weird that these pages are missing because the machine came with its documentation/manuals/parameter info.

On the plus side, after punching in some parameters my Work Light comes on now, but I still can not turn on the spindle, rotate the turret, or jog any axis.

After a couple tries I was finally able to input the OP parameters, the OP parameter numbers pictured have been changed to the correct ones, so please disregard those.

I originally had the following alarms when I got the machine:

#9 Detecting No Signal
#10 Detecting No Signal
#13 Drive Alarm
#14 Drive Alarm
#131 Illegal Parameter Data
#150 Illegal Pocket Number
#442 Chuck Barrier Malfunction
#443 T/S Barrier Malfunction

After changing the batteries and reinitialize attempts, I have these alarms:

#14 Drive Alarm
#20 NMI Emergency Stop
#22 NMI Memory Parity

I also have some red LED lights that are currently ON on some boards.

Bellow you can see my parameter pages.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

With the three alarms you still have, it could be the reinitialize clearing procedure didn't take.

Often the standard way of reinitializing the control won't clear all the memory correctly.

The sure-fire way to reinitialize is to do it using a personal computer, which hooks into the control card rack. (Maybe that's what the extra cable back there is for??)

MEAU or Mazak (or Google??) has the procedure on how to do it...

I've also had luck doing the "clear" procedures several times when reinitializing.

On my T2 machines, they only have the first 3 pages of parameters. But, mine are all the older version FX784-8 and FX784-9 main memory and program boards.

If your machine has the upgraded single FX884 board instead, possibly that's why you have two extra pages of parameters? Usually extra pages would be for more complex machines, with live-tools or sub-spindles for example.

Worst case your memory boards (or possibly another board in the rack) have corrupted chips, in which case an Ebay/Internet hunt for a replacement board(s) would be in order. Once you get good working boards and thus control/machine, you can copy the memory chips onto new ones for a spare set (using some type of chip reader/writer...)

ON EDIT: Your FX727 board has burned-in memory chips as well. The red lights on the boards are coinciding with your alarms and parameter issues up front.

Also you have the "narrow" version of the T2 rack, which was probably the last version before the T32 control came out in 1989. So you've got the best T2 rack you can have, once you get her sorted out you should be good to go for a good while!

Also, check your power supply outputs there...make sure they are all in range.

Thanks for the tip on using a computer to clear the memory, I'll look into it. Its nice to know that I have the latest version of the T2 control, just can't fully appreciate it right now. haha

My machine does not have any live tools, parts catcher, auto loader or a sub spindle, only a tail stock. It does have a FX884 board. It does have some mounting holes on the door, maybe where the pneumatic auto door once was mounted, or do all Mazaks come with the holes pre drilled for field install?

The machine has the following boards: FX81, FX701, FX884, FX727, FX702 and FX715

Any idea where one may be able to source the missing parameter pages?

I'll check out the power supply, the volt spec can be found in the electrical manual or is it a standard number through out the years?

Trust me, I am so looking forward to getting it sorted out and start making chips. :D

So I did make a mistake during the reinitialize procedure. After finding a Mazak tech, he recommended to clear tool data, program data etc before punching in parameters . I'm not sure if this made a difference, but my machine is alive again. spindle turns on, X and Z move.

I alarmed out the machine by accident because I didn't have any hydraulic fluid in the tank. So when I tried to do a tool change, I got these alarms:

20 NMI Emergency Stop
204 Spindle Controller Malfunction

Will add fluid, try to clear the alarms and then will update.

I have the same alarms with the same problem I punched in the parameters on the front panel I have the discs and I don't think I reinitialized properly but the batteries were dead. I need help

Did you get the machine running?I have the same problems

What tech did you talk to
Hi,

I got in touch with a tech in Mexico, who was able to walk me through this process step by step. He knows these machines extremely well, his English is a bit hard to understand sometimes, but not a deal breaker. His fee was very reasonably priced too, saved me a lot of time vs me trying to figure it out myself.

PM and I can share his contact info.
