Using top-notch cutting tools will always guarantee you the best results, but is it always the best approach? In this special episode of MACHINE SHOP TALK, Ian Sandusky from Lakewood Machine & Tool is joined by Joshy Jacob from Sandvik Coromant to answer that question.

When it comes to getting a part done quickly in a one-off or short-run scenario, it can often make sense to use whatever tooling and programming approaches you have available to get the part finished quickly and get it out the door. However, when we’re looking at taking that same part into a production scenario where there may be dozens or even hundreds of components to manufacture – it’s worth investing in the right tooling, tool holders, and programming software to cut down your cycle time and reduce workload on the operator. In this scenario, we’re going to be looking at a part programmed up job-shop style, and then running the same part with tooling from Sandvik Coromant to see the massive time and cost savings possible with some fairly simple changes.

Tooling up for a job can be intimidating due to seemingly higher up-front costs, but check out this video to see how quickly you can recoup that initial investment and start introducing serious profit margins into your production runs.
