Hey Guys, Looking at purchasing my first machine for a startup shop. I’m looking at a 2007 Doosan Puma 240 Lathe. Anybody have any experience with these machines? Whats the good, the bad & the ugly? It has roughly 10000 hours on it. Thanks in advance.

I used to work for Doosan. The Puma is a great machine, and Doosan still has parts and support for it. With that said, what control is on the machine?
Does it come with manuals? Tool holders? Condition?

Used machines are like used cars, there's a lot of junk, but keep looking and that jewel shows up.

The hours don't sound bad for the age.

Let me know.

Thanks for the info Douglas. It has the Fanuc 21i-TB control, which I’m familiar with. I wish it came with more tool holders but looks like I will have to buy some. Are they easy to come by? I know they’re not cheap but I think the price of the machine is pretty decent $20,000? I didn’t notice any manuals but the overall condition of the machine looks good for the age and I will be able to see it under power before purchasing. Idk if there’s a difference but it is a Puma 240-C. Thanks again, Joe

I am not surprised that machine still runs. I just helped a customer with a 1997 Puma 8H that is still running flawlessly.

Fanuc supports the 21i so you're good there. Price sounds about right and ASK if they have the manuals. If they don't tell them you'll have to subtract about $1k. Doosan has manuals and Fanuc still has yellow books so you're good, even if you have to spend a little $.

Holders are available from Doosan as well as MSC and others.
