can anyone tell me if the 40 taper 15K spindle that comes on the NHP models is an integrated motor spindle that can't be separated? I've been told if the spindle goes you have to replace the whole motor spindle unit and its very costly. Any input would be great.

Yes, and no. Integral motor, but the spindle can come out and be rebuilt without taking the entire unit out, and as long as your stator is good, it can stay in the machine. Rebuilt one 2 weeks ago, no big deal. Here is a pic of what it would look like out of the housing. Naturally this would need someone to remove and install it that knows what they are doing as its not just a cartridge you are sliding out. This was a NHP4000, not sure exactly what you have but this should be similar.

Do they charge an arm and a leg?
Can they stock ready to go units? Just swap and send them a core?

I don't believe they stock spindles anymore but turn around was usually under a week. Not sure on pricing.

Cost is relative.
I spoke to someone who had to replace his DVF spindle. Ended up costing around 40k with core exchange and labor. Quite costly, yet inline with a Japanese/German machine of similar spec. Gotta pay to play.
You're just not going to see pricing under 10K like from Haas or Brother.
