vmc15xt tool change problem

Tool changer 21 tools. Problem, spindle not lifting high enough while trying to index new tool,
old tool is not completely free and spindle hit new tools both sides of old tool.
This occurred after memory was lost/cleaned and parameters re-entered. Manual says the spindle should
lift 3.8" but it seems to lift only about 3" . Any ideas?

Have you zeroed the tool changer? There is a procedure for that and it must be done any time the memory is wiped.

Yank the offending tools out if you can avoid getting fingers pinched and find the TC,1 documentation.

I'd say that you defaulted to the wrong ball screw, but the vmc15 should be
english screws, and they are finer pitch than the metric. So if you now have
metric in the parameters, you should get a very ugly over travel..

Is the carousel at the actual correct tool change height when it starts the tool change?

When you tell it to move an inch, in either x y or z, does it actually move an inch?
or are you only short when the head tries to move up for the carousel to spin under it?

Hmm, there are encoder comp's for axis zeros at startup. X and Y need/should be center of the table. Z is for aligning for tool change. Maybe the sign on the value is wrong, or, the coupler is off a half turn. I did that after pulling the motor to move it under a low door. In my case, the carousel was hitting the spindle nose and faulting out. A half turn with metric screws was quite a bit.

Thanks for ideas, this is now fixed, it was my bad, I selected wrong ball screw/inc system when inputting parameters
just like Bobw suggested.
