Hi folks, I'm a long time lurker with a fair bit of cnc manufacturing knowledge through work, with higher end machines from Toyoda and Mori. I'm considering purchasing a pair of machines for my home shop, one is a 1997 Fadal 4020HT with 5 axis cards and wiring installed and I believe a 28"Z and the other is a 2007 Milltronics RW20 with 4th axis control. Both machines were used by a local aerospace supplier and were doing aluminum work. Both are now in storage and I cannot verify anything under power. Previous owner claims both machines were serviced regularly by an independent technician and he did a full check-up and cleanout yearly. Claims the 4020 had a ball screw replaced recently and holds circular interpolation roundness in the tenths. I'm comfortable doing my own maintenance and repairs, but really want to avoid major service such as turcite replacement. This is a package deal and he doesn't want to split them. I will be programming both of them offline for anything complex and may use the conversational on the Milltronics.

These are going to be mostly for my own projects, but I will probably design and offer a few products to run on them. If you were in my shoes, would you run, or would you grab them if the price was right? For you, what would be the right price? Rigging from the storage to my shop will cost me about $2500.

what's his asking price? do you need both machines? not being able to see them under power sure does bring down the price a guy is willing to pay then it all becomes about the risk factor. i'd want to at least hear from another contact within that shop or vendors that know the shop well. you can tell quite a bit about a shop just from walking in there. the fadal is attactive if it does indeed have 4th and 5th cards and is ready to slap a trunnion on it.....if you ever would even have a use for it.
