HRT210 Vs HRT210SS

I'm going to be purchasing a new VF-4SS, and I am planning on getting a 4th rotary with it. However, I'm having difficulty choosing between the HRT210 and the HRT210SS (successor to the HRC210, or so I'm told).

Who out there is running either of these, and what are your opinions? My concerns with the HRT210 is slower speeds, so not great for live 4th work (though I've no current projects requiring a live 4th, I wouldn't rule it our for the future).
The HRT210SS has a much higher brake holding torque, but lower rotational torque. The speed though..... fantastic. Prices are $1k in difference, so not a huge factor there.

Anyone care to give their input? Thanks.

I mean. Higher break torque and faster rotations? That’s a big win.
Does it wear faster?

If your not gonna be chugging big helical slots do you need the torque?
My day today
Hrt210 in a vf2 13” long helical slots 180deg rotation per slot.
0.5” kennmetal a harvi1te 4flt
0.625” deep full slot
350sfm 18ipm
Torque on the rotory read 25% in cut
For comparison it reads 35~40% when g00. Rotates it.
Now if it was 5 rotations over 13” vs 1/2 rotation it woulda took more torque….

Normally I’d go torque over speed. For general application tools… but toss in the higher break torque on the SS? I think I would go SS.
Almost all my 4th work is positional.

Only other considerations I can think of is package dimensions for clearances and is their any difference in duty cycle?

The wear is an unknown. The sales rep hasn't sold any of them yet, and doesn't know any in the area. I agree, the higher brake holding torque is something that caught my eye. Being new to 4th axis work, I have no good grasp on how much torque is needed for a given op, so your numbers helped a lot with that... thank you! I can't imagine I'd take any harder cuts using the live 4th than what you stated.

Thanks!

Got a 210 HRC, nice for production and never needed more torque than it offered, so I'd go with the SS. The HRT has worm gear drive, the new SS has a cycloidal drive. "Allegedly" a bit more rugged than the worm drive. Why not look into a 310 rotary, you can fit it and swing bigger parts?
