This motor is fried.

It's the little motor that runs the driveshaft of the Brown & Sharpe square base #2.

It was smoking last night, the operator started the machine this morning and the motor was too hot to touch in less than five minutes.

The local guy who can rewind this motor is working on some big agricultural pump motors and is tied up for two weeks.

I'm unfamiliar, this is Dad's shop and I'd like to handle this one myself. I know I can get a rebuilt motor and electronic timer for a grand..

Do I have any options here? Standard Dayton is out of business and the dynabrakes out there are the ones left. I don't see why a motor couldn't be found that uses a mechanical brake when de-energized.

Again, my inexperience. advice?

wouldn't a 1/3 horse baldor brakemotor do the same job without the rectifier and delay timer equipment in the circuit?

Whoa

This is getting to be a pretty popular topic.

I can see that this is because I am awesome.

I ordered a 1/2 horse baldor brakemotor to replace the dynabrake 1/3hp motor. I believe I will be taking out the DC rectifier and the cutler & hammer delay in this circuit and simply supplying the driveshaft motor with its motor relay?

Is this a very common thing to do with the old #2 square base and is there any use for the poorly welded, rewound 2 years ago, burned up and dirty little dynabrake?

Best post ever:

I am still awesome.

If anyone is attempting to do this with one of their old machines , where the dinabrake dynabrake standard dayton standarddayton brakemotor brake motor goes out on an old machine or your timing is funny, or it won't brake but instead just coast, drop me a line and I can tell you how to retrofit a new $300 friction brakemotor on the brown & sharpe square base #2, and then get all of the other stuff out of the circuit so you can run it again.

it's easy.

in conclusion, I am awesome.

Atetsade,
I agree. You are awesome and this is the best topic ever. I only wish I could help answer your questions. If I ever put anything about electrical stuff on this board I would be in vialation of comandment #8 of the 10. However, the way they go on and on about the 10 EE I am sure it's only a matter of time before someone will agree or disagree with you. Lots of sparkies out there.
In conclusion,
You are awsome

Alright I'm that guy reviving a almost 20 year old post. I am currently researching how to do this and came across this. Would like to know more if possible.
