Why can't I get a pinion, spring, and crystal for a Last Word Ind? I know there not expensive, but I like to fix my tools.
Thanks,
Payson.

This page is for reference only because we are not a Starrett distributor, we won't be able to supply spare parts. The only exception is carbide contact points, because they are not manufactured by Starrett.

Starrett is very helpful on spare parts. I have had trouble deciphering some of the indicator parts breakdowns on the web. IIRC you have to register to look at parts drawings.

Starrett or their distributors sell spare parts. Link to one of the springs on the last word is here.

To my eye, that sounds like some 'wink-wink' legalese put up by someone who got a nasty letter from Starrett. There's really not a lot of reasons to keep the page up otherwise. Did you actually contact them? Maybe they have some old parts in a drawer somewhere ;-)

Why would I contact them? I'm not the one who needs the parts.

Lol

What is it with you millennials wanting to do everything with Interapid's?

Jk, but I'm in agreement with the above. Last Words are kinda like the Timex or Ford/Chevy pick-up of indicators. Not the best, but they're always there for you and they don't break the bank. I've had a couple I sent out for repairs, which was cheap IMO, and others that just keep going.

I also have a couple old Federal's that I go to when I need something better than .001, but it really just comes down to knowing what tolerance is needed. I'm not one to mess around with tenths when the job dosn't require it, and I'd rather not drop or crash one of the nicer ones if I don't need to (Murphy has his way and all).

Everywhere I look the last word indicators are surprisingly expensive. I have one in my tool box that use to be my dads from the 70's, I have never used it. You can get a cheap SPI one for half the price. Not a bad hobbyish tool.
