Okamoto 1224 Crossfeed Issue

We've got an Okamoto 1224 that's been pretty bulletproof until this morning. Turning on the auto crossfeed with the adjustment for crossfeed amount cranked all the way up, it will only feed .025" per movement. The only thing I could think to check was the hydraulic pressure and it's still set at factory numbers. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Hopefully I'm just missing something stupid.

It sounds like you know the machine, but at least on my Okamoto you have to push in the feed control knob and then turn to adjust. Just turning without pushing in does nothing.

Had a similar problem om one of our 1224's. Turned out the solenoid on the Vickers cross feed valve failed. The valve sits behind the front cover.

Out of curiosity, could you tell if the valve was bad by looking at it? My coils seem to be fine, and I don't see anything obviously wrong with the valve but it looks like there's a lot going on in there. I'm perfectly willing to just replace it and see if it fixes the problem.

Couldn't tell by looking at it. Found problem by measuring coil resistance. 70 ohms is nominal I THINK but don't trust me on this. I found a data sheet on the Eaton site. Apparently Eaton bought Vickers several years ago.

In addition to the solenoid itself you could always pull the valve apart and check for any debris potentially blocking a port. I had a similar problem with a valve once that had caught a piece of a gasket that broke away.

A question. If you put the grinder in saddle move does it move full stroke or is it still limited to 1/4 index moves?
Actually in saddle move it doesn't move at all.

I replaced the valve and coils, and still same problem. It will only increment .03"-ish at a time. This is getting more complicated than I'd like.

I have the trouble shooting sequence but the file is too large. PM me and I'll send it to you.

Well, in case anyone was sitting on the edge of their seat waiting for the answer to this-

I just pumped all the oil out, cleaned the intake screen and the inside of the tank, and put new oil in. The oil didn't seem very dirty until I put the new stuff in. I guess it would have been the obvious place to start, I've only been here a couple years and nobody could really tell me what the maintenance history was. Not only is the crossfeed better than before but the table feed is positively flying compared to what it was.
