Hi all,
Does anyone here know if the plain-bearing B&S No. 2 grinder has like a spindle lock? Sure doesn’t seem like it does, but maybe I’m missing it. I’m thinking if nothing else, I’ll have to open up the rear panel and just like ”grab the belt” (um, have my wife grab the belt I guess…) while I do what I need to do up at the spindle. I’ve made an adapter that screws onto the spindle and I want to get it good and tight, but I need to be able to “lock” the spindle in order to do that…thanks—Charley in Colo

I have not seen a B&S plain-bearing spindle with a lock. A strap wrench can be put over the opposite wheel hub, With care and caution, one can tap a 6" long wrench in a circular motion with the likes of a wooden hammer handle. Overtightening something may be harmful to the spindle. The direction/thread right or left hand so the rotation should be towards the direction that tightens.
Good to explain what the project is, perhaps a spindle extension, or what?

Good that a SG has one-way rotation, but the shutdown can sometimes loosen a spindle threaded attachment.

I've never considered the need for a spindle lock on mine.
Nor on the DoALL, either.
You could get yourself a few sets of sopko arbors with the gear nut, though.

I have a couple, for some reason never use them as opposed to at least a dozen plain arbors.
I do remember preferring the gear nut style on a lightweight Harig when i worked in an outside grinding shop, though, especially changing small dia wheels.
