Taft Pierce Parts Specs

I have just acquired a Taft-Pierce No 1 grinder (no fine adjust knobs on mine, boo! :bawling:) but it seems solid (after I tipped it over, broke the Y lead screw and fixed it again :ack2:) I am finally back to the point of thinking about starting it up, but it's missing a few pieces.

I need specs on the the following so I can make them:
- Wheel Thimble Retaining Screw
- Wheel Thimble Puller

Does anyone have these and are you willing to upload a few pics and dimensions? I would like to replicate them as close as possible to the originals.

As a bonus question: How do I clean the rust off the spindle nose? There is some minor rust on the one side (top-ish) and some pitting rust on the other side (bottom-ish) that I would like to clean up but am afraid to damage it....

Don't wire brush hand wheel numbers but fine small file any high bugs/nicks just to the original surface and then use fine grit abrasive paper backed with some stiff backer.
You can use the same fine abrasive on the spindle nose turning by hand.
Hand spin the spindle a few times but don't try to remove spindle nose pitting because you likely will take too much and mess up the taper., then jog-start the spindle.
if a plane-bearing be sure it has spindle OIL.
Good to post your location

Roller ways or flat scraped ways? If roller/ball you might clean it, but only if you are sure how to take it apart. If scraped check for rust on the overhang portion and that it has oil.

Old wheel may be dirt/coolant logged so if it seems out of balance try a new wheel.

I'm still looking for some specs on the following:
- Wheel Thimble Retaining Screw
- Wheel Thimble Puller

If anyone has these for their machines and would take some pics for me I would greatly appreciate it.
