  • Want to hang an inversion swing in my Mfg. Home lanai. There is a beam that runs the width (12'), it's a 2x4 hollow aluminum and there is a celing fan in the center. The swing would hand to right or left of the fan. Would that hold a 125# weight that would be moving somewhat? Is there a way to test weight limit?

    Hey Matt,

I wouldn't hesitate to use a VFD (all by itself) with a dynamic braking resistor. You will find that there is so much drag in the ways that you will not likely have much regenerative energy to dissipate if any.

Figure out your maximum desired rapid speed (our planer mill is set up for about 450 inches/minute maximum) - and set the motor up so it is spinning 2700 rpm at that speed. That will give you a good turn down and the motor should be loafing when working.

Our planer mill has a rack gear with a pinion gear that is driven from a spur gear and shaft extends out the side of the machine. We have a 50:1 right angle worm gear with a timing belt drive to this shaft and it is geared as described above.

The VFD should work well. I would wire it up with a Potentiometer for speed control and a FWD and REV relay set up with end of travel switches to toggle the relay.

Ours is set up with a CNC control with Newall Spherosyn scales - it is a handy machine!

We are drilling two .150 dia. holes into a cylindrical part on 45degree angles which meet each other. No problem until drilling the 2nd hole , when the drill tries to break thru into the first hole, then it grabs and breaks the drill. We are using a solid carbide bit with parabolic twist. What would be a better choice ?
    Matt,
I cannot get the search function to work. It was OK until the week end. Perhaps I am doing something wrong?
    Thanks, John
Matt, evidently we do not have a how to repair section showing step by step instructions on disasssmbly and reassembly of the Bridgeport milling machine, how come??
I'll buy that radial arm drill and tilting box table from you. My truck just broke down, so would it be possible to ship it?
